Topo Gigio Bar T-Shirt
In 1976, I left London where I had worked as a waiter for 3 years and I went to work in Montecatini. One evening when attending the bar restaurant in my town, the manager told me that he wanted to give up that business and asked if I wanted to buy his place.
I talked about it to my brother who was working like me in Switzerland and we decided to try to work on our own.
Since then, every time I went to the bar to have a drink in the evening, the manager always asked me the same thing, so towards the end of the summer of 1976 we agreed on the price.
His name was Sergio like me and the restaurant’s sign was “da Sergio”, so we had to change it to avoid confusion.
In London, I had worked for a while in a restaurant near Soho called “Topo Gigio” so that name was chosen for our new restaurant thus honouring the memory of places dear to me …
Since the time of my studies at the Congregation of Salsiani my passion has always been for the “Divine Comedy” of the greatest Italian poet: Dante Alighieri.
Thanks to my returning home, I was able to dedicate myself to reciting it by heart in schools, theatres and villages in Tuscany.
